Holy Family Catholic Academy

The historical background of Holy Family Catholic Academy spans over half a century and shares close ties to Holy Family Church, a former Navy Chapel, established as a parish in July, 1950, under the pastor, Rev. Joseph Sherry, S. M.

In September, 1956, the Most Rev. James J. Sweeney, Bishop of the Diocese of Honolulu, formally blessed the parish's new elementary school located adjacently in Navy Housing Area 3. Initially the school consisted of two 1st Grade and two 2nd grade classes and was staffed by two Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Sr. Mary Cornelius and Sr. Marie Alicia, along with two lay teachers. In 1960, the first stage of the school's campus was completed and two years later the second unit was erected.

Through the years, Holy Family School made rapid progress - its facilities were enlarged and transformed and its programs developed and enhanced. Renamed Holy Family Catholic Academy, in 2001 the school was recognized nationally for its excellence.

Many accomplishments and events have contributed to the legendary success of Holy Family Catholic Academy as we know it today. Its history and legacy are linked to the outstanding and dedicated efforts of all those devoted to the school over the years: pastor/administrators, principals, faculty and staff members, students, parents, parishioners and volunteers. Having recently celebrated our fiftieth year of operation, Holy Family Catholic Academy is forever grateful to those responsible for the success and well-being of our institution of learning.
